Being present

10/13/2012

So, it was fairly obvious that I had a bad week.  But I feel good about how its turned around.  The day of the "invisible" post,  I came home and made myself become present.  It wasn't immediate.  I had about half an hour before having to p/u the boys, and it was a tough half hour, but I survived.  Once I got the boys, I made myself start cleaning and made them dinner.  I did laundry and helped with homework.  I then took Cal to swim practice.  I love watching him swim.  It makes him so very happy.  Once I was home, I kept myself busy doing more work.  When I woke up the next morning, some of the heavy blanket had lifted.  I was so very glad....  I hate feeling hopeless.  When it happens, I pray to God that it will disappear soon.

Feeling better yesterday, I went out with some coworkers after work for a couple of drinks.  We went to this new bar at the local airport where they do skydiving.  It's so incredibly cool to watch them land.  It was one of the nicer places I've been since moving to the Midwest.  They even had a fantastic veggie wrap.  I stayed a little later than I intended, so they I could visit with Laura a little.  She was going to the same place at 7.  It was nice to see her and meet some of her new coworkers.  The best part about the whole night was that I actually practiced control.  I didn't drink that much, and I knew when to quit all together and when to leave.  It was almost like real grown up decision making.  I was very proud of myself.

Brian got called into work this morning.  It was a bummer.  It would've been nice to spend the day with him, but it's also good for $.  Overtime is our friend, that's for sure.  I started the day in a really nice way.  A couple of friends text me, and I went back and forth with them a bit, and then another friend emailed me asking me to fill out her online dating profile.  It was actually pretty fun.  She's super exceptional, so hopefully she finds what she's looking for.  After some great convo, I got into the cleaning and laundry mode.  I know this sounds weird, but I actually enjoy doing laundry.  I love that there's an immediate return on my investment of time.  The rest of the day has included a nap (I can never seem to get enough sleep), playing Words with H.P. off and on throughout the day, and a trip to the grocery store.  I bribed the boys to come with me, by promising they could pick out a treat.  It's rainy and cold and I just wanted them to get out of the house for a bit.  This is the first weekend in quite some time that we don't have any sports for the kids.  It's so very nice.

I bought a recumbent bike off of Craigslist yesterday.  Its' pretty nice, and we got a fair deal.  We are going to put it in the bedroom tomorrow.  Our bedroom is too big, so it'll be the perfect place for it.  I'm hoping to use it in the mornings (yes, that would require me to get up early....) and watch VH1.  Anyway, I've done very terribly on diet and exercise this week, but I'm determined not to take away all of my hard work and efforts over the past few weeks.  This is just a bump in the road toward better health.

So, the town we live in has something called, "The Turkey Testicle Festival."  Apparently ppl really eat those things.  OMG....  WTF....  It's supposed to be a big deal in that everyone I've talked to about it, has been.  I guess it's one big party.  A couple of friends wanted to go, but I'm not feeling like going out.  Although, I can't imagine a better place to ppl watch.  I think tonight is the perfect night to stay in and hang with the fam.  Plus, my hubby shaved his face this morning, and when he does so, he thinks it means he's for sure getting laid.  He's so funny.

Anyway, hope you're all having a wonderful weekend.

Much love,

Jen
