Vegas got an early start. I got smashed on the flight over there. I was definitely the most drunk I've ever been while flying. And trust me, that says a lot... I used to have to drink a lot just to get on a plane. When we landed my sister-in-law Darcy, picked me up from the airport. She was able to stay an extra day after a conference she attended let out. We went to the hotel to meet up with 2 of her friends, and we all immediately started drinking...then we hit the buffet. The buffet started off well. I had them make me a nice, healthy salad w/ fat free dressing. But I learned a hard lesson that day...never drink at a buffet. We kept drinking at the buffet, and as a result, we each kept eating poorer and poorer choices. Near the end, one of the gals referred to herself as having the Buffet Sweats. Also, Darcy's friends were worried about her not eating in the morning and thought she should take some food with her. We filled up that big 'ol purse of hers with every dessert imaginable. Good Lord, it was like going to a buffet with my mom and her ferry friends. lol
After getting plowed and fat at the buffet, the girls announced they were taking me to Gilley's to ride the bull for my 40th. Gilley's was actually closed for some corporate party, but that didn't stop us Buffet partiers. We waltzed right in and made ourselves at home. I rode the bull twice. I didn't do so well, but I had a blast! I can scratch that one off the bucket list. After a while, and a free shot of tequila, I was done....I had to go right then and there. I knew I was trashed. So, I took my full beer up to my room, where my intention was to pass out. Oh, if I'd only done that... Instead, I noticed they had an iPod dock, and I blasted some music, and danced around my room in my underwear, a tank top, and my orange OSU baseball cap. Oh, that must've been a sight... And of course, finished the big ass beer. I eventually did pass out. The next day was the worst I felt out of the whole trip. I felt as if I'd been hit by a train.
The next day I took Kirsten Lewis and her son Kameron (cutest kid!) out to lunch at P.F. Chang's. It was really nice visiting with her. It's always so great to WRG folks. There's just a bond there, that we all enjoy.
I then moved from Treasure Island to the Plaza on Fremont, where Caity and I were going to stay. I gambled a bit, while waiting for her, and of course lost. I have no patience for gambling, as to me, it's almost like taking a lighter to my money. So, even though I felt like dung, I decided to kill a little time in the bar. I had a few beers before Caity got there, and one more once she arrived. It was soooo good to see her. I love that girl. Truly and seriously, she is one of my favorite people on the face of this earth. We proceeded to Fremont St., which I'd never experienced before. I followed through on my promise to myself to do the zip line. I'd wanted to do something totally out of character to bring me into my 40's. I was nervous as all get out, while waiting, but once we went....I had a ball! It was one of the coolest things I've ever done. Now, I think I've gone crazy, as I think I want to hit the Stratosphere next time in Vegas. WTF?! I guess 40 has changed me. I now have balls. Does over drinking cause balls to come in? We took in all that Fremont had to offer and spent our last few hours at this bar, that I keep forgetting the name of. They had the most fantastic band playing. I mean it. One of the best, or probably the best I've ever seen in a bar. They played the greatest music. At one point, Caity and I were the only ones in there, and I decided to be the dancing queen, and danced my ass off...by myself....and loved every minute of it. Although, every time I went to sit down Caity seemed to have a kamikaze shot waiting for me. Ugh.
Yesterday was another great day. We had plans of going to the wax museum, but our first stop was Sin City Brewery. We were going to get a drink to go, but when we ordered I was told for just $1 more I could get a pitcher (German wheat beer)...and Caity got 2 for 1 on her drinks. We were pretty lit by the time we left. This is when the inappropriate picture of me with Donny and Marie was taken (the one I text a few of you).
We then headed to Margaritaville and we were apparently there for 3 hours. Great food, awesome bartender (giving us free shots), and nice cold beer. When we finally left to walk the strip, we ended up going right next door to O'Shea's. The last time I was there, they had a great duo playing, so we stopped in. Although, I don't think it was the same duo, it was again great music. Jouni met up with us there, and it was so nice to see her. We then headed back to Fremont, where Caity used the distraction of me being on the phone to order another kamikaze. Oh man....Those kicked my ass. At midnight, I suggested we head back to the hotel, as I had an early flight this morning. I actually got about 5 hours of sleep, so I was feeling fairly well today. Poor Caity, not so much. She was trying to keep it all in.
I know this is supposed to be a blog dedicated to showing my journey to a healthier me, but I think only people that know me read this...and can appreciate that I can still get my native on and indulge from time to time. Again, Caity was so great. She made me laugh and laugh and laugh, and sometimes we cried (fucking hard alcohol). But she's a great travel partner and I'm so glad that we were able to celebrate our birthdays together. I'm so lucky to have such amazing people in my life, and I thank God for it every day. (Even when I'm hammered...which I'm sure he thoroughly appreciates).
I'll be back on track tomorrow, and hopefully you'll be able to find some inspiration in me. Also, I believe Amy is coming back from her hiatus to start blogging again also. Check it out. She really is a great role model for those wanting a healthier life.
Until tomorrow,
Jen
